I too am a poor human being, with my miseries and pettiness; in the ups and downs with Miriam I suffered a lot, and at times I happened to think and write things that, read afterwards, I no longer find fully shareable; my fear is that my feelings at times clouded me, preventing me from focusing on things and aspects far more important.
On the other hand, I did think certain things and also wrote them; I would be lying to the reader if today I tried to hide them, so I made the decision to publish here in an appendix everything that, in hindsight, filled me with doubts or did not make me proud of myself, to lay bare my feelings even in their most unpleasant and petty sides.
I warn of this beforehand through this note and leave any judgment on the matter to the reader.
There is another aspect that pushed me to lay bare even my “dark sides” and nastiness: once my ex wife, in the midst of the arguments before the divorce, told me some words that, although clearly meant to hurt me, made me reflect on certain aspects of my character, and in the end had a positive effect on my personal growth as a person.
What I mean is that we should not reject criticism, even when it is instrumental and ill-intentioned, if it can help us understand ourselves better.
I hope it will be so for Miriam should she read the part that follows in this book, in some places stuffed with nastiness toward her.
