For the understandable rush to wipe out that terrible mafia organization, various issues are overlooked, from Maniero’s hidden “Treasure” to most of the political/police/judicial cover he enjoyed.
The psychological impact on the Veneto underworld is as huge as it is hard to put into words: After him the flood, nothingness … not only is the mafia status lost at national and international level, but a return to the past isn’t even possible—can you imagine the ex-cronies going back to stealing wheels of Grana cheese?
