I think it’s a common experience to be told by some member of law enforcement a line like “we can’t do anything,” obviously seasoned with various excuses, like “the judge will just release him right away,” “there isn’t enough evidence,” “the case will take a long time and then maybe they’ll even make you pay damages,” etc. etc. etc.
The reader may take it as a personal opinion, but I am convinced, and I have personal evidence, that nothing could be more false!
The truth is that judges only appear during trials, when the most decisive events, investigations included, have already happened and, at least until then, they make decisions ABOVE ALL, not to say ONLY, based on the reports of the Carabinieri and the Police; and when this creates injustices for the unlucky honest citizen, a demanding choice arises: accept the misfortune or pay out of your own pocket for lawyers for an indefinite time with no guarantee of getting justice, and the mathematical certainty of losing something anyway.
In these years of hardship I have had many painful indications of various perverse dynamics, which in some cases I believe I have paid for personally with clear injustices; here I only tell of those I consider of general interest (and that do not involve me), for example cases of different treatment, sometimes diametrically opposite, for people who have stained themselves with the same crimes, which, at least in my view, are proof of corruption in law enforcement, of a “Rogoredo System” even where I live.
