One fine day, Miriam asked me to accompany her while she was going to visit a relative and, as often happens due to her constant changes of plans, what was supposed to be a short trip of at most an hour turned into a long car journey with various stops that allowed me to witness firsthand one of her "typical day(night)".
While we were traveling, Miriam was constantly on the phone (YES dear reader, OBVIOUSLY while DRIVING, and without any device).
That day I had statistically valid confirmation of what I had suspected for some time: Miriam LIES, practically always, even when there is not only no benefit in lying, but it can cause immediate and difficult-to-resolve damage and misunderstandings.
Just to give an example, at one point I heard Miriam say "see you in 10 minutes" to a mutual acquaintance, now, apart from the fact that the day's schedule was already full and could not accommodate further visits, knowing our location and that of the interlocutor, I immediately realized that we could not be in that place in 10 minutes, not even with a state-of-the-art military helicopter!
My request for clarification from Miriam, as usual, went unanswered.
Having observed a certain tendency to lie even when it is not necessary among other affiliates of the "dark world," I came up with an explanation, which includes several arguments, and which I report below:
1) Make a potential customer happy to prevent them from immediately turning to another supplier
2) Habitually mislead: If someone is on my trail and is in contact with the same person (or an investigator about to stop me for a check), the probability of them having unreliable information about my movements increases.
3) Accustom the minds of interlocutors (everyone, including relatives) to consider attentions as rare and precious, effectively making Miriam a constant reference, a bit like explained in chapter 4
